ABOUT PABJ

The Plattsburgh Association of Black Journalists was founded during the Spring 2015 semester by Ruhamaiah Bradley, Hollis Richardson, Alex Ayala, Joyce’Alyn Payne, Henry Rambalde, Delano Wood, Darlloyd Petteway, Mamie Bah, and Trudy-Anne Evans.

These students felt there was a need for a group on SUNY Plattsburgh’s campus that was journalism oriented. Several publications and a public relations organization already existed. However, there wasn’t an organization that catered to the needs of journalism and communications students. College students pursuing majors in these career fields were told to network but were not given the proper means to do so. After much planning, the group decided to establish a chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists on campus.

The organization was approved of provisional status on February 25, 2015 and of permanent status on February 24, 2016.

COMMITMENT

PABJ In Action

PABJ is committed to providing students on campus, particularly those with majors in journalism or communications or who have an interest in the media, with events and forums that educate them on the media industry. This could range from discussion forums, collaborations with professors to educate students on libel and ethics, Skype sessions with people who are currently working in the field, and collaborations with other clubs/organizations on campus.
